The U8 team played in the U10 tournament and luckily, we had borrowed Ségolène to be our goalkeeper. The first match of the day was against the German team Rissen, who won convincingly 9-0. Despite the defeat our young players kept fighting through the whole match.
Five hours later we played the second and last match of the day against Odin. The first 12 minutes the match was really close, and again the kids kept fighting. But because of a lot of confusion around a penalty corner, the kids lost their concentration and Odin got two quick goals and won the match 3-0. All though we lost, Elin was named “player of the match”!
Sunday morning started with a super tight match against Kalundborg, but unfortunately, we had another loss of 1-0. But again, we were awarded the title “player of the match”. This time Casper got the reward!
The second match was against the Swedish team Västre Landhockey, where the team had been reinforced with two “real” U10 players – Adriana and Noa! It was a fight from start to finish and finally we won a match. 1-0 on a goal by Adriana!
The win meant that we had to play one more match for the 3rd/4th place – but unfortunately, we had to play Odin again. Odin was better and stronger than us, and it was never a question who would win the bronze medals.
High praise to the U8 finished on a well fought 4th place and the whole team really deserves a pad on their shoulders. Out of the 8 players, only two of them had tried to play an indoor match before, whereas two of the players have never even been practicing indoor. And it was the first time ever we tried to play with penalty corner. All in all, a fantastic weekend – thank you very much to both kids and parents. We are already looking forward to next time.
